Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Kasbah of Telouet – Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
The 5-day desert tour begins with an early pickup from the airport or your accommodation in Marrakech. Then, you drive through the fascinating High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, with stops to enjoy panoramic views of the stunning landscapes.
Next, we continue to visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The kasbah has appeared in many movies such as Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and in TV series like Game of Thrones. Then we head to the “Gateway to the Desert,” Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Agdz – Draa Valley – Nkob – Merzouga Desert – Camel Ride – Overnight in Luxury Desert Camp
After breakfast, we explore the city of Ouarzazate. First, we visit the Atlas Studios, where several famous movies were filmed, and Kasbah Taourirt, an ancient fortified clay castle. Then we depart for Agdz and enter the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river, driving along palm groves, spectacular kasbahs, and Berber villages. Free time for lunch in Nkob or Alnif.
After lunch, we continue toward the Merzouga Desert, passing through Rissani. Upon arriving at the Erg Chebbi dunes, we switch to camels to cross the desert, stopping atop a large dune to watch the sunset. Then we continue to the camp, which blends traditional nomad tents with the luxury of a hotel. At the camp, you can enjoy Berber drum music while dancing around the fire under a starry sky. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 3: Exploration of the Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Palm Grove
Waking up early is essential to admire the beautiful sunrise in the middle of the desert. Free time for breakfast follows. Then, we return by camel to Merzouga, where the driver awaits. The day is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga region, which features dunes, wild lakes, mines, fossil areas, and fabulous oases, ideal for outdoor activities.
We begin the tour in Merzouga by visiting an old off-road eyeliner mine. Next, we visit the nomads in their handwoven tents and learn about their life while enjoying a Berber tea. Our next destination is the village of Khamlia, where you will enjoy Gnawa music and dance performances. Its inhabitants come from sub-Saharan countries such as Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Free time for lunch at a restaurant. Afterwards, we stroll through the palm grove and drive a few kilometers to see the wild Merzouga Lake, also known as the Flamingo Lake. Dinner and overnight at a hotel.
Day 4: Merzouga Desert – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
After breakfast, we leave the desert to visit Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet, which remains an important commercial center with a large souk active on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
After a walk through the Rissani souk, we continue to Erfoud to visit a fossilized marble workshop. Then we drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad to reach the Todra Gorges, a spectacular canyon with red cliffs, ideal for climbers. Free time to explore the gorges and enjoy the scenery. Lunch is free at a restaurant. We continue to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades, stopping at the “Monkey Fingers” rock formation and a viewpoint overlooking the valley. Dinner and overnight at a hotel.
Day 5: Dades Valley – Valley of the Roses – Skoura Palm Groves – Kasbah Amridil – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
On the final day of the tour, we continue to Kalaa Magouna to visit the Valley of the Roses, where an annual festival is held in May featuring local products such as perfumes, rose water, oils, and cosmetics. Then we drive past several kasbahs, including Kasbah Amridil, surrounded by the palm groves of Skoura. Arrival in Ouarzazate with free time for lunch. We continue to Marrakech, crossing the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass and the High Atlas Mountains. Finally, transfer to your accommodation or the airport in Marrakech. End of the 5-day Merzouga Desert tour.
